International Business Semester Abroad Course

Program DescriptionInternational students studying currently in any business-related Bachelor’s level degree program can continue their studies for one semester in Kazakhstan, while gaining exposure to international business practices and learning the languages and culture of Kazakhstan.  Students can enroll for one semester and take up to 18 credit hours of courses at KAFU.  The program benefits include:

  • Enrollment in business courses for 1 semester (usually between 9 and 12 hours);
  • Enrollment in a “Business Perspectives” course that introduces students to the Kazakhstan business environment through bi-weekly visits to local businesses (3 hours of credit);
  • Enrollment in intensive language courses in Russian or Kazakh (if desired), including an individual tutor and practical assignments (between 3 and 6 hours);
  • Enrollment in general education or culture courses for 1 semester (usually between 3 and 6 hours).

 Students should contact KAFU to determine the exact courses available during the semester they wish to study.

Cost:  $1,000 for one semester, not including living, visa and travel expenses.  Students studying at a university with a bilateral tuition waiver agreement with KAFU can, upon approval, study tuition free at KAFU for one semester.

Requirements:  Students must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s level business program at their home university.  They should be able to submit a transcript indicating the courses they have already completed.  Students should also complete and submit an agreement with KAFU and their home university. Students must also be able to pass an English proficiency exam, demonstrating at least an advanced-intermediate level of English (this does not apply to students from English speaking countries).

Schedule:  This program operates in the fall semester (September – December) and spring semester (mid January to mid May).

 Academic credit:  Students will receive an official transcript from KAFU showing the courses they studied during the semester.  KAFU’s business program is fully accredited by the Ministry of Education of Kazakhstan and by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs in the USA.  As such, credit from courses taken at KAFU are generally easy to transfer back to the student’s home university.
