Specialist and Market

DSC 0412

Yerezhep Mambetkaziyev, the KAFU President, the Member of the Republic of Kazakhstan National Academy of Science, attended and spoke at the IV Eurasian Higher Education Leaders Forum EHELF-2015. The forum was held on June 11-12 at Nazarbayev University in Astana. The agenda submitted the question of the XXI century-graduate’s key competences in the modern labor market.

- Today, the global challenge is a mismatch of employers’ expectations with university graduates’ level of training, - pointed out Aslan Sarinzhipov, the Minister of Education of Kazakhstan. - This problem is relevant not only for Kazakhstan. This is evidenced by the last year results of employers’ survey, which expressed concern about the level of university graduates’ qualification, although it stressed the importance of academic achievement, university’s prestige, the graduate’s desire to constant renewal of knowledge.

To solve the problems of modern specialists’ training the Member of Kazakhstan Academy of Sciences, Yerezhep Mambetkaziyev, expressed a number of key proposals, which aroused great interest among the participants. Today, specialists’ training does not take into account the demand of the labor market. As a result every year 25% of graduates are unclaimed. It remains relevant to create large innovative regional public universities, that will eliminate duplication of majors. Higher education on a competitive basis is for the best-trained students, because the mass paid training leads to the increase in graduated unemployment. The priority still is trainings of redundant theory, etc. (see the full speech in the blog of “The University President").

- The XXI century with its advanced technologies, mainly in English, increased the importance of multilinguism. For 20 years, more than four thousands of English-speaking competitive specialists have been trained. According to the Ministry sources, in 2014 KAFU took the 4th place out of 130 universities of the country in graduates’ employment. Considering the experience of multilinguism, we propose to host the "Round table" with participation of the Minister, leading universities rectors and foreign partners.
