Implementing leadership principles in Warner Pacific College

From October 19 to October 30, 2015 within the framework of international cooperation, Co-Serve International provided an opportunity for KAFU department heads I. Bordiyanu and Y. Gavrilova Y to visit Warner Pacific College, in Portland, Oregon, USA.

For two weeks KAFU teachers attended classes and meetings held by the University administration, studied college structure, met with colleagues.

Kazakhstani teachers saw that Warner Pacific College implements principles of autonomy proclaimed in many educational documents. All questions related to the content of education, teaching methods, staffing and curriculum are solved by the college autonomously.

When solving important issues college faculty and administration act as a team which is an essential principle of leadership.

The college is focused on the implementation of modern values such as tolerance, equality of opportunity and overcoming barriers related to ethnic background.

Lectures are generally of motivational and highly educational character.

College teachers are highly professional, love what they do and treat their students with love and respect.

Many of them use the method of brainstorm in their classes which helps to generate ideas to solve certain problems.

Every college teacher is a person who leads students and is a model of self-improvement and self-development.

The system of education in the college is directed at development of leadership principles among students. Teaching in the college is designed to develop in students self-motivated thinking personality. College teachers create in their classes conditions where students learn how to organize their activity, which will help them to learn throughout their life.

As a result the students can ask right questions, actively participate in discussions make presentations.

In general, KAFU teachers saw and felt that the principles of leadership are actively implemented and developed at every level: by administration, faculty, staff, and most importantly, students.-

- For us and our university learning how principles of leadership work in in our US partner college is very important, since KAFU mission is training leaders of the XXI century for the benefit of sovereign Kazakhstan - sum up Yuliya Gavrilova and Ilona Bordiyanu.
