British Council: Fundamentals of Content-Language Integrated Learning for Students and Teachers

On December 12, at KAFU, within the framework of the British Council "Creative Spark" project, on the basis of a student hub, associate professor of the Department of Foreign Languages, Valentina Vladimirovna Gersonskaya conducted a training seminar on the basic principles of using CLIL (content-language integrated learning) in the process of teaching a foreign language or special subject with elements of English.

With the help of illustrative examples of authentic texts and videos on the topic of “Green Economy”, Valentina Vladimirovna explained the main rules for applying this methodology, namely: drawing up associations with terms, discussing topics in groups, choosing the correct definition of keywords, conscious learning of students, using the Internet technologies and multimedia, work with a glossary, pre-, while- and post-text tasks, etc.

From the commercial point of view of this method, we can call the development of teaching materials for the training of specialists of various profiles and the conduct of foreign language courses at all levels for special purposes, for example, English for future metallurgists, lawyers, etc.
