On February 15, 2020, a regular meeting was held with 9-11 graders of the «Umit» orphanage in the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk, as part of an art therapy project for the Small Grants program of the US Embassy.
A senior teacher, psychologist-consultant Yelena Nikolaevna Vdovina, in order to develop students’ self-confidence, increase self-esteem, creative imagination, held a master class on creating a doll-amulet “Bird of Happiness”. The bird has long been the guardian of the family hearth, well-being and the harbinger of spring. It was generally accepted among the people that a bird is an image of a mediator between our earthly world and heaven. They tried to hang such a mascot in every house. The amulet bird takes away the negative, with which a person can enter the house and brings only good things into the house. Traditionally, the bird was made from natural materials: wood, straw, paper.
Participants of the master class were asked to make a bird amulet from jute twine.
